Carefully produced by Lorenzo Vella, the label's director, in collaboration with Nightingale Studios, the recording room of Bird Box Records, "10/5" is a work that captivates the listener from the very first notes, leading them on an emotional and surprising musical journey.
Originally released on CD on June 23, 2023, "10/5" garnered attention from critics and the public for its refined fusion of genres and styles.
"10/5" is the result of deep and passionate musical research, reflecting the artistic journey of Alessandro Bianchini. The album naturally ranges from the academicism of classical music to jazz improvisation, creating a unique and captivating blend. The sounds of traditional jazz merge with elements of contemporary music, giving life to an original and unmistakable sound.
"The timbral choice of the drumsticks that change depending on the track, the instrumentation (the vibraphone, the marimba), and the almost obsessive attention to dynamics are the elements that, in my opinion, give the record a jazzy sound, with significant and recognizably refined elements," states Bianchini. "Another aspect that is certainly evident to those who listen to the record is the presence of an element that I personally always place at the forefront and which is the basis of improvisation and interplay: Timing. Timing that has allowed me to create a very natural and almost instinctive feeling with the other members of the group: Marco Micheli on double bass and Simone Brilli on drums."
Of the seven tracks that make up the album, five are original compositions by Alessandro Bianchini, while the other two are jazz standards rearranged for the trio formation: vibraphone/marimba, double bass, and drums. The presence of special guest Beatrice Sberna on vocals in two tracks adds a touch of further refinement to the work.
"10/5" is an album that stands out for its elegance, originality, and its ability to move the listener. A work that confirms the talent of Alessandro Bianchini and the quality of Bird Box Records' productions.

JazzGuitar Today
JGT contributor Joe Barth covers the international jazz guitar scene in this interview with Italy’s Umberto Fiorentino.
Umberto Fiorentino was born in Rome in 1956 and has lived his entire life in this area. His approach to the guitar is the “less is more” perspective championed by the great Jim Hall. His love for music cultivated each year as he completely self-instructed himself in musical technique and expression. Though jazz is his central passion, he has disciplined and developed himself equally in classical, pop, and rock styles.
JB: You’ve been playing for over 50 years, I know you’re self-taught, so tell us briefly about what inspired you to play jazz guitar.

Diversity
‘Diletta Longhi's ‘Diversity’ is a debut album that many improvised pseudo-artists who have recently infested the scene (also thanks to the Sanremo bandwagon and overconfidence in autotune) would not even dream of on their most lysergic journeys.
A niche record? For a few aesthetes? Not really, and even if so, who cares in the end? Real art is unfortunately not their bread and butter.
A straight and amalgamated record, with a truly sensual musical carpet, from a warm and full-bodied voice, ideal for making love while it's raining outside, almost like Diana Krall's ‘The Look of Love’. Continue reading...

Diego Librando from Sound Contest tells us about Francesco Mascio's latest work - Romantique Duniya.
In the landscape of world music, “Romantique Duniya,” the latest album by Francesco Mascio released by Birdbox Records, stands out as a work of rare emotional intensity and sonic richness. The guitarist and composer presents ten original tracks, characterized by a musical language that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries, enriched by the presence of eighteen talented guests from various parts of the world, including Ireland, Iran, Libya, and Gambia.
The album, starting with the semantic and graphic interplay in the title (which alludes to ancient migrations), is conceived as a sonic journey that blends tradition and innovation, thanks to the meeting of instruments and timbres from different parts of the globe.
The rhythm section, featuring five percussionists and a drummer, plays a key role in the album's overall structure, emphasizing the deep connection with ethnic sounds. Examples of this are "Tre Trifogli" and "Tarhindu," tracks that highlight the importance of percussion as an element of identity.
Mascio once again demonstrates his ability to naturally fuse hypnotic rhythms and evocative melodies, creating an atmosphere that envelops the listener.
Umberto Fiorentino / Claudio Quartarone – “II” – Birdbox lp Following "Anamorfosi," the two guitarists return with another top-notch creation. Eight tracks showcasing a continuous flow of ideas, an absolutely extraordinary empathy, and an ability to consistently hold the listener's attention. There's no doubt that these two are among the best guitarists that European jazz can boast.

To Giants
The new album by the pianist and trio leader features tributes dedicated to various jazz pianist-composers, as well as pioneers of the diverse styles that have characterized the genre's evolution. It is a celebration of the jazz piano genre, which embraces a wide range of styles and possibilities that only a versatile instrument like the piano can offer.
Diversity
Diletta Longhi makes her official debut with an album balancing jazz and world music. It evokes African, European, and American sounds in some of their forms and evolutions, ranging from reggae to jazz, soul to hip-hop, and pop to rock. In 'Diversity,' the songs address love, but not solely; they include reflections on what the future holds, on the human condition, and on the relationship with Nature. An album with concepts worth reflecting on!
