About ten years after his first record release ‘Europa Jazz Quartet’ and after eight discs characterised by the use of the most disparate stylistic ingredients, Francesco Mascio returns to his roots with a new work inspired by the jazz tradition: ‘My Standards’. As the album's title suggests, it is a production entirely composed of original pieces, eight of which are the result of writing work that has matured over the years, while the compositions ‘Esharef's Moment’ and ‘Soul of New York’ are the fruit of an ensemble experimentation based on the concept of radical improvisation. Although the album's theme is strongly jazz-centred, Mascio does not fail to express a distinct versatility, which he manifests through the skilful use of numerous stylistic influences (latin, world, soul, free, classical and more) and his peculiar crossover jazz tuned to 432 Hertz.The album concludes with the composition for solo classical guitar ‘Notes from the heart’, from which Mascio reveals a dense emotional component, already strongly marked in all his work.
